Flexsteel is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices in its products. By optimizing design, utilizing sustainable materials, and implementing efficient packaging practices, the company aims to create a healthier world for future generations.
By working with Minimum, the Enterprise Carbon Management Platform, Flexsteel calculates greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for all assets under its operational control for 2022.
By the end of 2023, Flexsteel plans to assess its Scope 3 footprint and publish an updated GHG inventory.
Flexsteel is committed to sustainable materials and practices, with a focus on sourcing responsibly from suppliers. In the 2023 fiscal year, a comprehensive database of sourced Flexsteel products with wood fiber was developed, ensuring the amount of sustainable wood used in their products.
Our company prioritizes timber and wood fiber that is legally harvested and sourced responsibly using environmentally and socially sustainable forestry practices. To ensure consistency in their approach, the company has set three wood fiber standards:
Best (FSC Certified Wood)
Better (PEFC, SFI, or FSC Controlled Wood)
Good (wood certified by a local or national authority in countries with low risk of illegal logging).
In the 2023 fiscal year, 21% of wood was sourced from third-party certified forestlands, while 11% was classified as Best and 10% as Good. The remaining wood was legally logged under the requirements of the Lacey Act.
Flexsteel plans to expand its database to include all materials and packaging used in all products, providing transparency on environmentally responsible options for future product development. Additionally, Flexsteel is working to establish new eco-packaging standards, such as replacing Styrofoam with honeycomb cardboard, which reduces waste and enhances customer convenience while maintaining high quality.

Flexsteel's supply chain is crucial for its long-term interests, with over 60% of products manufactured by third-party suppliers. Ensuring that ESG initiatives align with these partners' standards is essential for mutual long-term success. This year, Flexsteel launched an enhanced environmental and social audit program for suppliers, aiming to meet stringent requirements and align with internationally recognized benchmarks for ethical and sustainable practices. The program includes supplier environmental management system certifications and 75 audit points based on SA8000 and Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA). Flexsteel also conducts thorough evaluations of new suppliers, focusing on their adherence to industry best practices and standards.
In 2022, Flexsteel introduced a new training program to enhance suppliers' understanding of ESG initiatives and audit and corrective action processes. This training educates suppliers on FSC documentation requirements, renewable consumption data collection, and guidelines on sharing environmental policy and waste management systems. Existing suppliers have completed the training, demonstrating their commitment to continuous improvement.
Additional training is provided to suppliers on specific items outlined in corrective action plans, enabling them to take prompt and effective steps towards rectification if necessary. By implementing these measures, Flexsteel aims to create a supply chain that promotes social responsibility and environmental stewardship.
